Aging & Life Transitions
Our population is aging at a faster pace than ever before, and there are few resources to assist those who are aging and their loved ones in this process. Aging individuals, as well as their family members, are often left to navigate this transition in life by themselves. Throughout my time working in senior managed residential care settings, I have seen many of the challenges that seniors and their loved one’s face on a daily basis while trying to navigate this change. Those who are aging, along with their families, encountered a multitude of hardship including isolation, loneliness, cognitive decline, memory loss, physical impairments, financial challenges, and many more. These are difficulties that individuals and their families have never faced before, and it can be a struggle to know how to enter this stage of life gracefully.
I take a compassionate approach when working with aging adults and their families, as I know that this is a difficult life transition. I have often found that individuals who are aging feel complacent, stuck, are coping with loss, or are unsure of what is next. I assist in helping develop new goals for this stage of life and help find clear meaningful purpose. For family members and caregivers, I focus on self-care, wellness and self-compassion, and well as grieving the loss of the aging person that they used to know. Additionally, I assist both aging individuals and their loved ones in identifying resources that can be beneficial for them during this stage of life.
